The 'arrow' indicates that this part has met the manufacturing standards of Great Britain and has been accepted for service.

Over 200,000 of these pistol were made by Webley. I haven't been able to find ANY mention of a six digit serial number … The letters on either side indicate the year is was converted to civilian use and the bottom number is the Inspector’s Number. top of the barrel also has a significant proof mark.
